Terms of Service

Last Updated: June 23, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of y, including our website, desktop application, and related services. By using y, you agree to these Terms.

What y Is

y is a desktop coding-agent app. It helps you work with local third-party coding agents, including Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, and lets you modify parts of the app interface through a protected self-modification system.

Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for your use of y, your computer, your files, your repositories, your terminal commands, your third-party accounts, and any outputs or code generated through y.

You are responsible for reviewing all AI-generated output before using it. AI-generated code may be wrong, insecure, incomplete, infringing, destructive, or unsuitable for your use case.

Third-Party Products

Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub, Google, Hexclave, PostHog, Cloudflare, and other third-party products are not controlled by us. Your use of third-party products is governed by their own terms and policies.

y may launch or communicate with third-party CLIs installed on your machine. Those CLIs may send prompts, code, files, repository context, terminal output, and other information to their providers under your own account. We are not responsible for third-party products, third-party accounts, third-party fees, third-party outages, third-party data practices, or third-party AI outputs.

Local Terminal and File Access

y can help coding agents read, write, edit, create, delete, and run files or commands on your computer depending on your selected workflow and permissions. Terminal access is powerful and can modify or delete files, install software, start processes, expose secrets, or affect your system.

You are responsible for deciding what folders to open, what commands to run, what agents to use, and whether to keep backups. Do not use y on files, systems, or repositories you are not authorized to access or modify.

Self-Modification

y includes a protected Kernel and a mutable Userland. Modify features may change the app interface and behavior within allowed boundaries. Changes can fail, break the interface, or need rollback. y may use compile checks, diff review, reset, and rollback tools, but we do not guarantee that modifications will be correct, safe, or recoverable in every case.

Acceptable Use

You may not use y to violate law, infringe rights, access systems without authorization, distribute malware, steal secrets, abuse third-party services, harass others, evade security controls, or create harmful code or content.

You may not attempt to bypass y's protected Kernel, authentication, rate limits, security controls, telemetry validation, or service infrastructure.

Your Content

As between you and us, you retain ownership of your code, prompts, chats, files, and outputs, subject to any third-party provider terms. You grant us only the rights needed to provide y, process feedback you submit, operate analytics, maintain security, and comply with law.

Feedback

If you send us feedback, suggestions, ideas, feature requests, bug reports, or missing capability reports, you allow us to use them without restriction or compensation.

No AI Training by y

We do not use your code, prompts, chats, outputs, or project files to train AI models. Third-party AI providers may have their own terms and practices when you use their tools through your own account.

Open Source

Parts of y may be open source. Open-source components are governed by their applicable licenses. If these Terms conflict with an applicable open-source license for a specific component, the open-source license controls for that component.

Updates

We may update y from time to time. Updates may add, change, or remove features. You are responsible for installing updates if you want the latest security fixes and product behavior.

Disclaimers

y is provided "as is" and "as available." We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, security, and error-free operation.

We do not warrant that y, third-party agents, AI outputs, generated code, terminal commands, file edits, self-modifications, or integrations will be accurate, safe, secure, uninterrupted, or suitable for your needs.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost code, lost business, security incidents, system damage, third-party charges, or cost of substitute services.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to y will not exceed the greater of one hundred U.S. dollars ($100) or the amount you paid us for y in the twelve months before the claim.

Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses arising from your use of y, your content, your code, your commands, your repositories, your third-party accounts, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of law or third-party rights.

Termination

You may stop using y at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if we believe you violated these Terms, created risk, abused the service, or if continued operation would create legal, security, or business risk.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a new "Last Updated" date. Continued use of y after changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
